Thanksgiving Staples for Skin Care
We’re less than one week away from Thanksgiving and then the countdown to Christmas begins. And those Thanksgiving staples—turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberries and pumpkin pie—are not only yummy traditions, they may give you a new ingredient ideas for a seasonal skin care product for next year's holiday season. The orange color-giving carotenoid in pumpkin, beta-carotene, is a form of vitamin A, which is known for its beneficial effects on skin (think Retin-A). When lots of beta-carotene is ingested, it may also give the skin a “glow”. According the LA Times, A cosmetic chemist from Pharmasol Labs, Jim Hammer, said pumpkins' source of enzymes, alpha hydroxy acids and fiber act as moisturizer and cleanser to the skin.
Cranberry's tangy sweetness can not only serve as a light fragrance, it’s a great antioxidant that kills bacteria, and can work some magic on blemishes and breakouts. It’s also noted for its ability to peel skin and help improve skin conditions like eczema.
