Formulators of personal care products are constantly looking for new, natural ingredients to augment existing offerings and extend brands with a hot twist. One such ingredient, according to dermatologist and formulator Jeanette Jacknin, M.D., is murumuru butter. Sourced from the Amazon, the butter is rich in oleic acid, helping to nourish and moisturize skin and hair.

Speaking at SupplySide East 2010, Jacknin said this "Brazilian butter is coming into its own as it is discovered by U.S. skin care formulators." Among the new launches she cited included a night cream from Prescriptives, the "Talk to the Hand" hand cream from Avon, and the Plantidote formulation from Origins.
