OFFSTEIN, Germany—Alpi introduced sugar-free perfume candy using BENEO’s Candy Innovation Matrix. BENEO worked closely with Apli to help the company manufacture Deo, a rose-scented sweet containing BENEO’s ISOMALT. It has a pleasant taste and consumers will transmit an rose fragrance through the skin. With Deo, BENEO has offered innovation in the functional confectionery industry. Using ISOMALT, the only sugar replacer naturally derived from sugar beet, Deo is sugar-free, low in calories, low glycemic and tooth-friendly. Due to ISOMALT’s slow dissolution properties, the taste experience is enhanced by the prolonged transmission of the subtle flavor of rose in the mouth, and also through the longer lasting rose-scented fragrance on the skin.
This form of nutricosmetics is made possible by the ingredient geraniol, an acrylic monoterpene-alcohol, which is a colorless liquid found in plants such as rose, lavender and vanilla. Geraniol is a natural antioxidant and its fragrance, once consumed as a candy, leaves the body through the pores, creating a naturally sweet smell that can last for hours.
