Cool New Trends
It’s interesting that once you become aware of a trend, you start to notice it everywhere, in just about every industry. We are always on top of trends and our two favorites of the moment are nostalgia/retro and what’s referred to as “simplevertising.”
Nosalgia/Retro is such a fun one, delivering that girly, reminiscent, carefree feeling no matter what age you are. A great example of this trend in skin care is the new and hot Soap & Glory line found in Target. This bubblegum pink, black and white retro photo packaging jumps off the shelf and makes you say “I want that.” It literally draws you in and hooks you. Who doesn’t love old-time photos of women with hair pin curls and big glamorous eye lashes? When you look a little closer. you realize they have practical and modern products such as the 15-minute Facial Peel and Invisible Spot Fighting Gel. The prices are fantastic too, ranging from $6.99 to $19.99. And more about retro, have you noticed Jack in the Box’s new logo? It’s a 60s inspired diamond shape with a retro font. Yep, that’s the nostalgia trend!
The other favorite is referred to as “simplevertising.” It’s minimal, clean and modern. A subtrend is called “literal packaging.” Simplevertising can be seen in Method’s cool line of personal and home care products with modern, simple shapes, bold colors and a minimalist logo. DKNY does a great job of simplevertising and literal packaging with its apple-shaped perfume bottles. Look around—minimalism is everywhere and it’s hot! People love simple, clean and beautiful packaging. They appreciate it on a subconscious level, too, because it provides instant recognition and ease of purchase.
