LEVALLOIS-PERRET, France—BASF Beauty Care Solutions developed a healthy glow-enhancing technology that improves the appearance of skin (after an overnight application) and visibly enhances its beauty—X-pressin™. BASF worked (patent pending) on a process to optimize and stabilize the papain enzyme, including toxicity and safe cross-linking agent tests. The preservative system was chosen to retain the maximum efficacy.
Key features include:
- X-pressin proved to be highly stable in activity when compared to free papain and free subtilisin.
- It retains more than 60 percent activity at 45°C for six weeks.
- In an O/W formulation, X-pressin maintains more than 75 percent activity after 12 weeks at 45°C.
- X-pressin technology proved to be less irritating than a glycolic acid treatment.
The effectiveness of X-pressin was demonstrated with a series of clinical and consumer tests. It visibly improved the overall appearance of the skin. After an overnight application, a large percentage of consumers found their skin was softer and smoother. After 21 days, X-pressi brought a new luminosity to the skin.
