Nigra Flower for Hydration

Again I’m amazed at the unknown ingredients available for formulating. In developing a moisturizer, I came across an incredible ingredient that is new to the market. There are so many ingredients yet to be used!

This ingredient is an aqueous extract pulled from the Sambuca nigris flower, similar to the honeysuckle. S. nigris was used by Native Americans for its medicinal properties. The ingredient was named Nibi, which means water in the Algonquian language.

Nibi, distributed through Ross Organics, is an eco-certified extract that is obtained through a gentle extraction process. The flower is high in flavonoids and fatty acids, which means strong antioxidant properties as well as great moisturization and protection for the skin. The benefits are incredible, perfect to add to a moisturizer or serum—provides immediate comfort and soothing, increased moisturization, enhances skin tone and texture, provides a youthful glow, helps to control skin reactivity (great for the many people with sensitive skin) and protects from internal and external aggressors.

In vitro studies with Nibì™ have shown it stimulates hyaluronic acid production in human fibroblasts for optimal skin hydration and regeneration. The best part is Nibi adjusts pro-inflammatory cytokines, TNF-α and IL-6, for better control over skin reactivity. This is a perfect feature sensitive skins will absolutely love. I find so many women (and) men with sensitive to ultra-sensitive skin during my trainings and presentations. With impressive clinical tests and positive consumer tests to back this ingredient, I can’t wait to formulate with it.
