NORCO, Calif.—Emani Minerals, a green organic cosmetics maker, incorporates green initiatives, including manufacturing paraben-free and talc-free products, and 100-percent recycled carton paper packaging with soy-based ink and water-based coating.

Emani supports its green mission by including mica in many of its cosmetic formulas. Mica is a transparent mineral that is mined from the earth. It can be opalescent and sparkling or completely matte, ranging in color from grey to blue to green. It is often treated with iron oxides to yield color effects. Iron oxides are natural oxides of iron that are combined with oxygen, varying in color from red to brown, and from black to orange or yellow, depending on the amount of water added.

Additionally, titanium dioxides are also used in an effort to promote its green objectives. Titanium dioxide is an alert earth mineral used as a thickening, whitening, lubricating and sunscreen ingredient in cosmetics. It protects the skin from UVA and UVB radiation and does not promote skin irritation.
