LAS VEGAS—Remember when anti-aging was the hot trend? Well, the International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine (IAPAM) released its list of the top trends to watch in anti-aging in the year ahead. Among the “milestones” the group expects to see:

• Cosmeceutical Market Growth: Market research projections suggest the cosmeceuticals market could advance by 7.2 percent a year to hit $8.2 billion in U.S. sales by 2012, bolstered by a combination of scientific advancements and savvy marketing.
• Beauty from Within: Synergistic combinations of topical products and ingestibles (foods, beverages, supplements) will promote better well-being, with antioxidants at the top of the ingredient panel.
• Innovative Ingredients: Topical products for skin care and anti-aging will make use of a range of ingredients from caffeine and peptides to stem cell technology and probiotics.
• Minimally Invasive Procedures: Expensive surgical offerings likely will trend down with the repressed economy, leading consumers to seek out more affordable, less-invasive anti-aging procedures: dermal fillers, skin rejuvenation, wrinkle reduction and laser-based liposuction.
