KENT, England—BiotechMarine introduced Thalassine 2, a water-soluble Matricaria maritima extract, which acts on the expression of cutaneous neurotransmitters substance P and acetylcholine to limit contractions and relaxes the cells. At the same time, it contributes to restoring an optimum three-dimensional architecture by stimulating the synthesis of collagen. The sensitivity reactions and mechanical constraints of the epidermis are transmitted to cutaneous tissue via the extracellular matrix. The resulting mechanobiological reactions tend to alter the skin's three-dimensional architecture. These modifications are sensed by specific cell receptors and give rise to intracellular biochemical activation cascades resulting in changes in the synthesis of components useful for matrix remodeling. So a mechanical stress leading to a contraction will cause the expression of certain matrix components. Relaxation, on the other hand, will allow the release of enzymes which break down over-expressed elements allowing the skin tissue to recover its matrix tension and three-dimensional architecture. Thalassine 2 has a multifunctional activity which: • Decreases substance P release for a soothing effect • Inhibits acetylcholine release for a long lasting myorelaxing effect up to 24 hours • Redensifies cutaneous tissue by stimulating and protecting glycosaminoglycans • Increases and protects collagen synthesis • Protects strongly against free radicals It is ideal for formulations for sensitive, young and not-so-young skins for the prevention of fatigue marks or expression lines. Its application in "mature skin" formulations shall ensure a degree of remodeling of the face, an optimal moisturizing effect and a reduction in the lines and wrinkles of the face.
