ESSENSKIN Restructures Fragile Skin

01/29/2008

LE PERRAY-EN-YVELINES CEDEX, France—Sederma has formulated a new ingredient to help the aging population fortify and restructure thin and fragile skin. The new ingredient, ESSENSKIN™, is a complementary source of calcium and essential amino acids specificallydesigned to re-boost cell metabolism and protein synthesis, rebalance ion flow and recreate calcium gradient in order to regulate the barrier homeostasis and the epidermal differentiation.

Sederma funded a series of in vitro and in vivo tests. Stimulation of metabolism was demonstrated with an increase of cell multiplication and protein synthesis. One test showed that ESSENSKIN protects the cells from an osmotic shock with a cell viability of +454 percent.

A two-month clinical study was carried out on 29 female volunteers—mean age 60 years, with mature skin and sagging neckline, and under no hormonal treatment—who were randomized to half-application of a placebo or cream containing 2.5 percent ESSENSKIN on the face, arm and neck. The cream exerted a significant and visible improvement in skin density, firmness and elasticity for 80 percent of the panelists.
