Packaging News reported Procter & Gamble’s (P&G) plans to start utilizing sugar cane-based plastics for packaging on some of its major personal care brands such as Pantene Pro-V, Covergirl and Max Factor. P&G plans to have their first products with this new packaging by 2011, and within the next two years it should be available globally.

"As we talk to women around the world, they tell us they want to make themselves more beautiful without making their environment less beautiful," Gina Drosos, global group president for P&G beauty,  said.

According to the Associated Press, the 100-percent recyclable plastic (per P&G) is created as a result of the sugarcane being converted into high-density polyethylene. P&G will get their new plastic products from a Brazilian company—Braskem SA.
