Around the globe, natural and organic personal care products made great inroads in 2008, even as moves toward regulatory harmonization and cosmetics standards opened the market, according to an article from CosmeticsDesign.com. The piece noted the European Cosmos standards are designed to harmonize certifications, although there are still questions as to whether the launch will, in fact, override the piecemeal regulations currently in place. Further, while eco-consumers are seeking more natural products, the landscape remains cluttered with an array of means by which to measure whether a product is “green”—carbon footprints, Fair Trade, organic, biodiversity, wild harvested and more.
