LA GRANGE, Ill.—Environmentally sound products for wellness from head to toe and from kitchen to bathroom: at the 56th SEPAWA congress in Würzburg, Germany from Oct. 14 to 16, specialty chemicals supplier Cognis will be presenting its latest solutions for “green” and for high-performance personal care products. Cognis experts will be giving a number of presentations explaining how manufacturers can use the company’s ingredients and concepts to effectively serve the needs of today’s consumers.
Holistic product experiences, proven environmental soundness and outstanding application properties are the key themes of the Cognis booth at SEPAWA 2009. Two sets featuring various formulations will show visitors how Cognis’ range of ingredients and products are used in high-performance personal care products that fulfill all sorts of consumer requirements.
“Green” and good: the Cognis Green Formulation Set comprises Cognis formulations for use in natural cosmetics, which are compliant with the requirements of certification bodies like the BDIH or NaTrue. These include the first plant-based pearlescent wax dispersion that contains no ethylene oxide or amines. The Green Formulation Set builds on Cognis’ Green Chemical Solutions (GCS) concept. This classification system provides clear information on the naturalness of every product in the Care Chemicals portfolio at a glance. Launched with the second phase of GCS, the Green Formulation Grid rates entire formulations, by plotting their position on a grid, with grade of naturalness along one axis and performance along the other. With this clearly structured system, Cognis supports manufacturers in developing new products that are tailored to the needs of specific consumer groups, and that help to reinforce their own market standing or image.
Appealing to all the senses: the Cognis Polymer Formulation Set includes a selection of high-performance polymers suitable for a wide variety of applications. For example, a new liquid acrylate polymer dispersion can be used to thicken and stabilize surfactant-based products. There are also Cognis polymers which make possible the creation of completely clear formulations, with small particles and colorful capsules containing active ingredients suspended in them—giving consumers a product experience which is visual as well as sensual.

New Ingredients For Personal Care Products

Cognis will be exhibiting a number of new ingredients for manufacturers of cosmetics at SEPAWA 2009:

  • A high-performance anionic O/W emulsifier, which is highly effective even at low concentrations, and can be used in a wide variety of advanced skincare formulations. In particular, its electrolytic and pigment stability mean it is ideally suited to use in sun protection products.
  • A PEG/EO-free dispersion polymer designed for skin and hair care products, with a sensory profile, which gives a very pleasant skin and hair feel and improves the combability of wet and dry hair.
  • A transparent microemulsion that fits with the “green” trend in the shampoo segment by combining natural origins with excellent performance. It is made entirely from plant-derived raw materials.
  • A high-performance wax dispersion consisting of a system that provides proven protection against hair breakage when used in shampoos, as well as excellent conditioning benefits in both skin cleansing and hair cleansing products.
