SNL’s Fernando Had It Right

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.—“It is better to look good than to feel good,” Billy Crystal’s Fernando used to say on Saturday Night Live. Apparently, women agree, as a new survey found women would be willing to spend more on a facial system that would make them look 10 years younger than on a diet program that would make them lose 10 pounds. The survey of 1,131 U.S. women, conducted by Harris Interactive for ZO Skin Health, also found women think about the health and condition of their skin more often than about their love life.

Zein Obagi, M.D. a board-certified dermatologist and creator ZO Skin Health, noted women have become more interested in realizing healthy skin through efficacious products. He added products like lipstick and cosmetics even sell well in a recessionary economy because the purchases are seen as affordable luxuries. “You can’t solve all of the world’s problems,” Obagi said, “but you can take care of yourself.”

And isn’t it worth it to hear, “You look mahvelous!”
