MIDLAND, Mich.—Dow Corning has alliance with Lipo Chemicals Inc. to provide microencapsulation technology that uses silicone with customized release for distinctive formulation that engage the senses. “By encapsulating a wide range of ingredients inside a protective ‘shell,’ formulators can create unique, consumer-pleasing products that not only feel luxurious, but also have enticing fragrances and are visually distinctive,” said Todd Ostergaard, deliver growth initiative leader, Dow Corning Beauty and Personal Care Products. The two companies formed a marketing and technical partnership in 2006 to provide microencapsulation delivery system technologies to formulators. “The alliance between Dow Corning and Lipo Chemicals is a perfect example of how we are going beyond our traditional technology base to provide the exact solution that is needed—silicones, complementary organics, microencapsulation delivery systems, and tailored materials designed to inspire creativity and reduce development time,” Ostergaard noted. This new technology utilizes the benefits of silicone, and can create visual appeal, protect unstable cosmetic actives, sustain or customize release and combine previously incompatible ingredients in one formula. The prototype formulations currently available in the “Engage Your Senses” include: Soft Vanilla Leave-in Conditioner, Peach Smoothie Body Scrub, Cherry Silk Body Smoother, Mink Chocolate Foot Cream, Cool Cucumber After Shave Balm, Sparkling Berry Styling Gel.
