WILMINGTON, Del.—DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products Co.'s Zemea® propanediol was independently reviewed by Quality Assurance International (QAI) and certified as 100-percent derived natural ingredient by Natrue, an international non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and protection of natural beauty and skin care products.

Zemea is a natural, 100-percent bio-based ingredient made from corn sugar through fermentation and developed for use in the cosmetics and personal care market. It is an environmentally sustainable alternative to petroleum-based glycols and glycerin—with a lack of skin irritation, improved moisturization and excellent aesthetic properties.  Zemea also is approved as a natural ingredient by Ecocert, the Natural Products Association (NPA), certified 100-percent biobased by USDA, and has both kosher and halal certifications.

“We are very excited to receive Natrue certification of Zemea, which is seeing widespread adoption in the global personal care market," said Dave Wood, product director at DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products.  “Companies who are seeking Natrue certification for their natural or organic products now have a certified glycol alternative to add to their formulator’s toolbox."
