SHANGHAI—The Personal Care and Homecare Ingredients (PCHi) exhibition opened on Monday with much fanfare and welcomed a record number of attendees for the fifth year running. On the first day, a total of 3,365 industry professionals visited the show, representing a 15-percent increase over 2011.

“Despite the challenging economic conditions that the world is facing now, the strong turn-up on the first day of PCHi 2012 indicates the Chinese C&T market remains an important focus for many businesses," said Daniel Chan, Project Director of PCHi."With the many activities that have been planned, we are certain that PCHi will meet the business objectives of both exhibitors and visitors alike, as it has in previous years. As we look forward to more positive years ahead, we hope the show will continue to guide industry players along the path towards greater success."

Growth in numbers was not limited to the visitors that came. A total of 278 companies showcased their products at PCHi 2012, 83 of which were first-time exhibitors. This was made up of both domestic and international ingredient suppliers, including: Ashland (China), Delfin Technologies, Guangzhou Silok Polymer, Hydrior AG, Kinsei Matec, Stepan Co. and Youngbio Chemical.

French cosmetic and perfumery cluster, Cosmetic Valley, also joined the trade show for the first time. Along with the association, 10 new French ingredient suppliers exhibited as well.

Another sign of the growing significance of PCHi is seen in the global launch of 26 ingredients at the show. New products that were unveiled include:

  • IBR CLEARLY BRIGHT, IBR-Phyto(flu)ene® & IBR-ProPhyDerm by Israeli Biotechnology Research Ltd.
  • Recombinant Human Collagen by Elagen (Xi’an) Biotech Company Ltd.
  • NorOmega UltraS™ by Northstar Lipids

And in order to cater to the needs of exhibitors and visitors alike, a line-up of engaging programs for the three-day event was unveiled by Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions (RSE).

New Conference Tracks

The PCHi 2012 conference features the widest scope of topics yet, providing local and international participants with a solid professional platform to gather and exchange market insights.

Numerous contemporary subjects were introduced this year, including ‘Healthy Hair’, ‘Glowing Skin’ and ‘Beyond Borders’ to educate delegates about the most popular personal care products in China and the requirements for establishing businesses in the country. And for the first time at PCHi, RSE introduced the China Cosmetics Ingredient Technology Summit. During these sessions, three members of the China State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) will provide updates on local industry regulations.

A total of 525 attendees have registered for the program. Amongst these are representatives from brands such as L’Oreal, Johnson & Johnson and Elizabeth Arden.

Hosted Buyers

RSE plays host to a number of top-tier buyers as part of the Hosted Buyer Program. PCHi 2012 welcomed representatives from more than 40 companies, including Procter & Gamble, Beiersdorf Hair Care, Da Bao, Blue Moon, Guangzhou Houdy Cosmetics, Mentholatum, Proya and many others. This initiative offers exhibiting companies the opportunity to interface with key decision makers from renowned manufacturers.

Product Zone

The fifth edition of PCHi features a brand new section on the show floor, comprising 35 companies that offer specialty products in the following categories—color cosmetic ingredients, cosmeceutical ingredients, flavors and fragrances and natural extracts.

Media Networking Session

This year, all PCHi attendees will have the opportunity to meet editors from various international trade publications. Held on the second afternoon of PCHi 2012, the Media Networking Session will allow manufacturers and suppliers to effectively capitalize on the PCHi platform to share company and product news with editors from a host of influential trade media titles.
