WASHINGTON—FDA published Import Alert 53-17—Detention Without Physical Examination of Cosmetics Due To Microbiological Contamination—notifying of contamination of cosmetic products. FDA stated the following reason for the alert: “Laboratory analyses have found Citrobacter freundii and Pseudomonas stutzeri in eyeshadow and Xanthomonas maltophilia and a high aerobic plate count in the eyeshadow component of a makeup kit. In addition, a high count of Staphylococcus saprophyticus was found in the lipstick components of a cosmetic tote bag."
FDA provided a list of firms and their products subject to detention without physical examination (DWPE).
