The bigger the lashes the better. According to NPD Group, even though sales for prestige beauty products were down 7 percent during the first half of 2009, lash enhancers were still booming.

Bigger is always better, right? In the 80s, it was the bigger the hair the better. The new millennium introduced bigger via automobiles—the bigger the car the better, i.e., SUVs, stretch Hummers, etc. Fast forward to 2009—the bigger the lashes the better. Pioneers such as Jan Marini and Revitalash introduced products for enhancing your lashes and in February FDA approved the first lash-growing product, Latisse, by health care and pharmaceutical company Allergan. Available by pregascription only, the product grossed $25.4 million in sales by the first half of 2009.

According to NPD Group, even though sales for prestige beauty products were down 7 percent during the first half of 2009, lash enhancers were still booming. Whether it’s an average consumer looking to enhance their eyes by lengthening their lashes, or a consumer with an eye condition such as glaucoma looking to stimulate lash growth, these products are hot, hot, hot.
