According to PremiumBeautyNews.com, on May 4, 2011, the French National Assembly adopted a bill proposed by the French group Nouveau Centre that will ban three groups of chemicals with alleged endocrine disrupting properties, including phthalates, parabens and alkylphenols.
In the initial April reading, the text was rejected, which is usually indicative of the public session vote; however, the adoption came in at a 236 for and 222 against vote.
Xavier Bertrand, French Health Minister, felt the bill was premature, stating: "The main results of these assessments should be available between late 2011 for the bisphenol A and the end of 2012 for other endocrine disruptors in consumer products," he said, according to PremiumBeautyNews.com.
The next step is a review in the Senate that’s scheduled to vote on the text within the next four weeks.
