YONKERS, N.Y.—After commissioned tests revealed a number of commercially available sunscreens in the United States contain nanoparticles—without specific labeling—Consumers Union sent a letter to FDA urging the agency to investigate the safety of such compounds in personal care products. The head of the consumer watchdog group told CosmeticsDesign.com that FDA needs to realize “size matters” and take necessary steps to ensure the safety of such nano materials, as well as mandate labeling to allow consumers to determine whether they wish to purchase products containing those ingredients.
