HOLZMINDEN, Germany—Symrise GmbH Co. has partnered with Cutech Srl, a Padua, Italy-based biotech company, to offer SCoutech, a screening service for cosmetic raw materials, cosmetic formulations, pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals. In this venture, the two companies merge their expertise and offer clients extensive screening and consulting services, the new high-tech service offers a broad range of screening assay in full compliance with the new EU cosmetics directive that is in the process of banning animal testing on personal care products. Using cell- and tissue-based screening assays, Scoutech supports the development of skin and hair care products. The skin and hair follicle screening model can be used as an alternative to animal testing. In addition, the collaboration has also developed a full thickness pig skin model that is more reliable and economical than artificial skin models. “SCoutech considers screening to be much more than a mechanical activity done by sophisticated equipment,” said Dr. Paolo Pertile, president and CEO, Cutech. “Our test procedures are reliable and beyond ethical objection. Furthermore, our experts offer guidance and consulting in order to provide our customers with information not only on the efficacy of their products, but also on the possible mechanism of action, in order to support both their R&D and marketing departments.”
