Eyelash Enhancer Gains FDA OK

12/29/2008

IRVINE, Calif.—Move over Cover Girl. Doctors can help women discover longer, thicker, darker lashes via Latisse™, a drug originally developed by Allergan to treat glaucoma. Just after Christmas, FDA OK’d the use of the product as a novel treatment for eyelash hypotrichosis, a condition characterized by inadequate eyelashes.

During original clinical trials for bimatorpost (the active ingredient in Latisse), investigators found use of the drug by glaucoma patients also increased the length and diameter of eyelashes. Phase III clinical trials further confirmed the eyelash-enhancing effect and product safety.
