Prickly Pear Shows Antioxidant Activity

03/13/2008

BRAM, France—BIO SERAE (bioserae.com)developed Cacti-Nea, a dehydrated fruit juice from the prickly pear cactus (Opuntia ficus indica). Prickly pears contain betalains and indicaxanthin characteristics; the dehydrated fruit juice is taken through a process designed to preserve the nutritional properties of the fruit.

An in vivo study on rats showed after seven days of Cacit-Nea, the urine volume in 24 hours was doubled compared to the control; and the weight gain of rats in the Cacti-Nea group tended to be lower than those in the control group. In addition, the study showed Cacti-Nea helped to strengthen the antioxidant protection of the body by increasing the globular rate of glutathione peroxidase (antioxidant marker). The results confirmed Cacti-Nea’s ability to support weight management and boost antioxidant protection. This study has not been published at this time.
