AVIGNON, France—Naturex acquired Berkem’s “Actifs Innovants” division, which includes clinically tested and trademarked plant extracts for the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, cosmetic and food industries. Naturex used a 34 million Euros ($50 million USD) credit line to pay 9.5 million Euros ($13.2 million USD) for this division, which generated a turnover of 3.8 million Euros ($5.6 million USD) in 2007. The purchase is expected to be accretive immediately and to strengthen Naturex’s Health and Nutrition division, which has been the company’s major area of focus and investment. Specifically, the company stated the expertise in Berkem’s “Actifs Innovants” will enhance Naturex's innovative product development and promotion abilities. The Actifs Innovants extracts will be manufactured by Naturex factories and sold in Europe, the Americas and Asia throughthe company’s worldwide sales network.
“This acquisition will boost our ability to bring more and more-innovative health product concepts that will set the market trends, with the competitive advantage to offer health claims supported by all the required scientific proofs, from certificates of authenticity to clinical studies,” said Jacques Dikansky, president and CEO of Naturex.
