Nutricosmetic Beverage Brings Home the Gold(en)?
I’m sure you remember Nestlé’s nutricosmetic beverage—Glowelle—which launched in early 2009 claiming to “hydrate the inner and outer layer of the skin"; but to the company’s dismay, it was removed from shelves earlier this year. Another beauty food and beverage launch that came and went was French-based Danone’s nutricosmetic yogurt Essensis, which was pulled off European shelves in 2009.
And yet another European nutricosmetic is launching; but this time, with a twist—a summer sun lover’s delight. The Spanish beverage company, Inbesa is introducing Sunlover—a beauty-from-within beverage made with beta-carotene, vitamin A and amino acids. The 250-mL brightly colored gold can, which resembles an energy drink’s slim and sleek look, is debuting in Brazil and Portugal.
What’s the claim? According to company, it helps nourish skin and promote tanning. In a press release issued this morning, Tom Vierhile, innovation insights director for Datamonitor, said: “The beauty-from-within sector has had a rough start with early innovators like Nestle’s Glowelle no longer on the market. By addressing a somewhat more tangible and visible benefit—sun tanning—Sunlover may have a better shot at gaining a foothold than earlier beauty drink launches. At a minimum, the hydration benefit offered here will be appreciated by sun lovers."
