‘You Say You Want a Revolution …’
Well, you know. We all want to change the world.”
A “revolution” is happening. With advancements in the natural products industry and the recent passing of the health care reform bill, the dietary supplement industry and our nation as a whole is changing; dovetailing these reforms is the personal care industry, which is already undergoing huge changes of its own with new concepts such as nutricosmetics popularizing. And although the recession set many industries back, the personal care industry is still seeing growth, and new product and concept launches despite the turbulent recessional ride. The Kline Group reported double-digit growth for the natural personal care industry in 2009; and this growth didn’t stop at our domestic shorelines. Brazil’s natural personal care market is up 15 percent from 2008, and Asia “collectively commands a 40 percent share of the global market for natural personal care products.”
Although the health care reform bill is controversial, the inclusion of complementary alternative medicine (CAM) and dietary supplements is a plus for the natural products industry. Prevention.com reported on a few vitamins that boost skin health, including: vitamin A for anti-aging and brown-spot reduction, vitamin B3 for hydration that leads to reduced redness, vitamin C, vitamin E for UV defense, and vitamin K for under eye brightness.
New scientific research, new concepts, new products, growth, reformation—there is A LOT going on, and change and evolution are almost understatements. This is an exciting time as the natural products industry is pushing the envelope and demanding attention. I think nutricosmetics and cosmeceuticals are only seeing the beginning of what appears to be a very promising future.
