Cosmetic Cocktails

Cocktailing and happy hour are always fun after a long day in the office. But does your skin feel the same way? Some “natural” skincare lines are still including potential drying agents such as alcohol in their products. Although research is controversial whether ethanol—an alcohol derived from wheat, corn or sugar cane—used commonly in cosmetics, is toxic to human skin cells or links to cancer, its use in “natural” personal care products is still causing a stir.

As stated in TruthAboutAging.com, there are “good” alcohols, known as fatty alcohols, that come from fats and oils that have been chemically reduced; however, these “good guy” fatty alcohols are not necessarily being used in “good guy” skincare products. Becoming familiar with these different alcohols may be worth your time.
