Cosmeceutical Products Take The Test

08/15/2008

CHICAGO--Cosmeceuticals are now being tested for their efficiency at the University of Illinois, Chicago by Dr. Regan Thomas, M.D., according to the article "'Cosmeceuticals' promise to turn back clock - but what's in that bottle" by Bev Bennett that appeared on NYDailyNews.com.

The article reported, Thomas is investigating the effectiveness of anti-wrinkle products, specifically popular cosmeceutical ingredients like vitamin C, topical estrogen, soy cream, peptides and retoinic acid and alpha hydroxyl acids. By studying various cosmecuetical products on a microscopic level in mice, Thomas hopes to discover the real effect the products have on skin cells.

Dermatologists, on the other hand, have their own recommendations of anti-aging products, containing a variety of ingredients, such as asorbic acid, hydroquinone and hyaluronic acid.
