Things are getting heated in the organic personal care sector. The Boston Herald reported Alexis Baden-Mayer of the Organic Consumers Association perusing the aisles of Natural Products Expo East seeing if the ingredient lists on personal care products added up to its claim on the label. Currently, FDA only regulates organic in the food sector, not in the personal care sector. And organizations such as the Organic Consumers Association are hoping to change that.
Companies should really tread lightly when making organic claims. But in the meantime, Baden-Mayer plans to start a consumer boycott of products that claim “organic” and really aren’t, unless they agree to update their label or change their manufacturing process.
