Consumers are increasingly searching for more functional benefits in fragrance products, according to a Mintel expert. In a story on GCI, courtesy of Perfumer & Flavorist magazine, Kristen Walker noted heightened awareness among consumers about the use of synthetic materials in foods and beverages has transitioned into the personal care segment, driving the introduction of organic fragrances. Further, fragrances that incorporate traditional aromatherapeutic oils—and their claims—are seeing strong growth, with product introductions up 73 percent in 2008. Interest in anti-aging personal care products has also found life in the fragrance category, with products positioned to make consumers smell younger.
